On 15 August 2025, teachers of Tashithang Middle Secondary School (TMSS) took part in a day-long Capacity Building Workshop on the CVEC Project, organised by the Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) Project of Samtse College of Education (SCE). The workshop was attended by 55 teachers, including the Principal, and was facilitated jointly by two core members of SCE and two GESI focal teachers from TMSS.
The event began with a traditional opening ceremony, including the lighting of butter lamps and the singing of Gyalpoi Zhapten to invoke blessings. The school’s GESI focal teacher delivered a welcome speech, followed by opening remarks from the Principal, setting an inspiring tone for the day.
The SCE core team provided a presentation on the GESI/CVEC Project, detailing its objectives, implementation strategies, and broader goals of promoting equity and inclusion in schools. Participants gained insight into how the project supports the creation of safe and inclusive learning environments.
A key highlight of the workshop was the inauguration of the School GESI LIKE Club. During the ceremony, teachers were introduced to the objectives of the club and the LIKE Club Manual, which serves as a practical guide for its activities. The inauguration underscored the importance of structured initiatives in fostering supportive and inclusive school environments.
Teachers engaged in four interactive activities aligned with the LIKE Club Manual:
- Mobility – Mobility Maze: Participants experienced the daily challenges faced by children with disabilities, fostering empathy and a commitment to inclusivity. Observers noted increased awareness and willingness to support students with diverse needs.
- Bullying and Inclusion: Through guided reflection, teachers explored the roots of bullying and the importance of empathy, collective responsibility, and respect for cultural and religious diversity.
- Physical Health – Luejong Bege (Movement for All): A guided meditation and stretching session energized participants and highlighted potential classroom applications for stress management.
- Mental Well-being – Jamtsei Lingka (Garden of Kindness): Group reflections emphasized self-care, positivity, patience, empathy, and daily acts of kindness as essential components of emotional well-being. Participants recognized the value of mindfulness in fostering patience, calmness, and supportive behaviors.
The workshop concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the hands-on activities, acknowledging their practical, engaging, and impactful nature. Teachers highlighted how the LIKE Club can enhance students’ sense of belonging, encourage active participation, and support holistic development.
The CVEC Capacity Building Workshop at TMSS exemplifies a strong commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and well-being in schools, equipping teachers with the tools to create more compassionate and supportive learning environments.
